Waiting!

Things to do while you wait for your app submission review.....?!! Hmm... Updates.....?? I recently uploaded a new app to the app store. Don't get too excited, it's a simple 2D arcade shooter called "Hands Off My Planet!". Go take a look at the screenshots in my portfolio and see what you think.

Fingers crossed it'll be setting some trigger fingers ablaze in a little while. Roll on "Waiting for Review".....

Hello World!

So this is what it all builds up to. After four years of university drift by in an instant, getting your results back just seems to drag on, but today is that day!! So this is as good a time as any to announce that I officially have a 1st Class Masters of Engineering degree. Yep a 1st Class Hons degree, only thing to do now is graduate in a few weeks. Bring on the 13th.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, "Hello World!"

The End!

No I'm not talking about everyones favourite 'Lost' island inhabitants.... My time at university has come to an end. I handed in my last piece of coursework and finished the Viva for my commercial development module so it's just on to Graduation and one last blow-out party. Just want to finish a few demos and get a little me time.

Long Live dot Chocolate Pain Productions.

Me and my Big Mac...Mini

Yes I bought a Mac... What...?! I will definitely be working primarily on PC and Consoles, and yes C++ graphics programming is my home, but I wouldn't mind getting a little objective C in there in my spare time. As far as hobbies go, I'd say one that offers the oppertunity to net you some cash while you sleep can only be a good thing. Don't you just love the App Store!!

AOGI?! OUT NOW IN THE APP STORE!!

It's been a while since my last post but that is generally due to getting ready for my first commercial games release. That's right, dotChocolatePainProductions has it's first game out in the App Store, and it's TOTALLY FREE!! So what are you waiting for, if you have an iPhone/iPod Touch. Go get it!!

AOGI?! OUT NOW!!
AOGI?!

A web of dot Chocolate Pain!!

"Ok, so it's a little late to be a Christmas miracle but the official dotChocolatePainProductions website is finally here...."

Just in time for the new year, the dotChocolatePainProductions website is online and populated. We have a game, we have a website. All we need now is a solid release date and I think we can count this one a job well done. Now to hit those sales targets!!

So Unreal

Downloaded the new UDK (Unreal Development Kit). Can't believe it, Unreal Engine 3 features for FREE!!! If you're serious about making games and you don't have this GET IT!! I don't have too much time on my hands right now but I definitely wanna test this thing out and see what it can do!

Pre Production

The Palm Pre came out today and of course being a giant techno geek, I had to get one.... The app store seems a little bare at the moment and I still need to take a proper look at the webOS Mojo SDK, but there's definitely a few gaps need filling. You can only have so many apps to calculate restaurant tips....

Seeds of Success

Although it looks like I'll be sitting on the 'Palm' side of the touch screen smartphone fence I am a software developer first and foremost. As such all platforms are considered equal (some more than others....) so I am very happy to say I am working on an iPhone app for 'Seed Software' at Hull University. It's a Commercial Development Module Project I applied for to develop a simple casual game. Looks like it could be good!!

Disconnected

Back at university again!! Unfortunately I have had no access to the internet for near two weeks now at my university house but I guess that's to be expected as a student. Luckily it's back up and running so I am no longer disconnected from the outside world.

A Swift career check

A while back I received a call from a recruitment company called Aardvark Swift after they gave a presentation at the University of Hull. The call was simply to let me know about a free CV advice service they run were students can send their CV in to have a member of their team take a look at, giving feedback and tips to improve it specifically for the games industry. If possible I would recommend all games dev students take a look at the service or any alternative options available because it is well worth it. There is a link to my CV here and also on my Contact and Bio page, and if there's anything wrong with it it's not my fault, right.....

Mobile Madness

As much as I'd love the title of this to imply that I'm getting a huge shipment of free high end mobile phones, unfortunately I can't say that's the case. Instead, today I took the time to register as an Apple iPhone Developer. It seemed like a good idea (sorry anyone who wanted that Apple ID...) and if I get around to one day defecting and buying a Mac, it could come in handy.

However, as a current windows user, I did think it at least a little counter-productive not to register for a platform I am actually able to develop software on. Thus I am now also a registered webOS developer. I say developer.... I signed up with Palm and download the webOS Mojo SDK so.... any day now...?!!

End Game!

It's official, my BSc Games Dev days are over. The results are in and I passed my finals and all my Japanese exams! Did you really expect anything less... This looks like it's gonna be a good year. Bring on the Masters degree!!

Web 2.x

With only content population left, the website is basically 'gold' and with it a lot of old HTML/PHP knowledge is coming back to me. I created this site not only to provide a digital portfolio of my work but also to relearn many of the Web Development practices I have lost touch with. Since being at University I have spent a lot of time coding applications but not so much with web development (possibly excluding .Net and client/server apps) so hopefully this should spark some of the old fire back into my Web Dev skill set.

On a side note I found an excellent site for web developers looking to relearn anything they've forgotten or even rookie devs looking to learn something new www.w3schools.com. Definitely worth a look!!

It's Alive!!

My digital portfolio website is now live and I feel a little bit more professional inside.

Check list:

  • Step 1: Make a Website [x]
  • Step 2: Finish University Games Dev Masters Degree [  ]
  • Step 3: Get a job in the games industry [  ]

Step 1 seems so easy now.....
